Logitech MX Keys

Logitech MX Keys Keyboard, UK Layout

At the expensive end of the market, this is one of the most well known keyboards released over the last few years. It arrived on the market towards the end of 2019 along with the MX Master 3. This is an ideal partner for any of the MX series of Logitech mice.

The main thing to note about this keyboard is that it’s ideal for pretty much any operating system. There’s actually a whole separate design if you’re a Mac user, so make sure you get the right model for your needs. But as well as Mac and Windows, it’s also great for Linux users as well.

The keys on this keyboard allow for a good amount of key travel. This will suit all of those that don’t really like the Apple Magic keyboard, which some users find too shallow. In comparison, the individual keys on this keyboard have more travel when typing.

You’ll want to download the Logitech Options software if you’re going to use this keyboard to its full potential. It allows you to use it with three devices at the same time, as well as customizing your keyboard in other ways.

It has an easy switch button which will give you the ability to change between different devices you’re using – you can connect to three at a time. This is one of the more expensive keyboards available, but it can hold its own with pretty much any other keyboard out there.

Pros

Definitely big and bulky, which means it’ll last a long time.
Lots of customizations for you to make.
Good amount of key travel.

Cons

Has quite a hefty price tag attached.
Some people dislike the Logitech firmware.

Verdict: Although expensive, the MX Keys has a solid reputation as one of the most reliable and solid keyboards out there.

Keychron K2

USA Keychron K2v1 Bluetooth RGB Backlit Click Aluminium Mac/PC Keyboard

If you’re looking for a mechanical wireless keyboard that is compatible with the Mac OS, there’s none better than the Keychron K2. It’s the best choice if you’re looking for something you can use with your Apple laptop.

At only 75% layout, it’s a good choice if you only have a limited amount of space to work in. It’s a very durable keyboard too, so if you’re looking for something reliable that will last, the K2 may be the right choice.

You do have a variety of different mechanical switches to opt for depending on your own preference. Some will opt for the clicky style that we associate with mechanicals. But if you prefer a quieter sound, then you can opt for something with less force that’s much easier on the ears.

In my opinion, it’s the best wireless keyboard for Mac users – potentially even better than Apple’s own keyboard. It offers a good amount of customization and is extremely reliable, which will be what many are looking for.

Pros

Easy to change the switches to your own preference.
Very well built.
Portable and easy to carry anywhere.

Cons

Can be difficult to acquire.
No software customization.

Verdict: If you’re looking for a mechanical gaming keyboard that can also be used for work, you won’t find anything better than the K2.

Arteck 2.4G Wireless Keyboard

Arteck 2.4G Wireless Touch TV Keyboard with Easy Media Control and Built-In Touchpad Solid Stainless Steel Ultra Compact Full Size QWERTY UK Layout Keyboard for TV-Connected Computer, Smart TV, HTPC

If you’re looking for the best value for money in a wireless keyboard, then I’d advise that you take a look at this Arteck keyboard. For the money, you’re getting a really good deal.

Probably most impressive about this keyboard is its trackpad – if you’re used to using a laptop, then a trackpad is going to be a good transition into using a keyboard. This can definitely come in handy if you need more precision.

The majority of cheap keyboard trackpads are pretty awful, including those made by the bigger brands like Logitech. However, this Arteck trackpad is awesome and very responsive, with easy to click right and left mouse buttons.

This keyboard isn’t just good for working – it’s also easily linked up to your Smart TV, too. Its scissor switch mechanics make it relatively quiet too, and although scissor switch keyboards are typically more expensive, this isn’t the case for this model.

So overall, if you’re looking for a cheap wireless keyboard, then this is the best option on the market. It is well designed, and takes up minimal desk space.

Pros

Excellent value for money overall.
Good appearance and fits onto desk easily.
Feels solid when it comes to build quality.

Cons

Doesn’t have backlit keys for typing.
No calculator button is annoying for number crunchers.

Verdict: One of the best wireless keyboards out there for the price, it has pretty much everything you could want from a keyboard.

Apple Magic Keyboard

Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad: Bluetooth, rechargeable. Works with Mac, iPad or iPhone; British English, silver

If you use a Windows laptop or computer, then you can skip right past this one. However if you’re a Mac user or a future Mac user, then you’ll want to consider opting for a Magic Keyboard.

There isn’t a great deal to say about Apple’s accessories, aside from they pretty much do everything they say on the tin. They’re long lasting, they look great and this keyboard is fairly quiet due to the scissor switch design. It’s not ergonomically great however, so just bear that in mind.

There are two different variants of this keyboard, and you can purchase it with or without a numeric keypad. So if you have a Macbook or an iMac, then it’s a good idea to consider a Magic keyboard.

The keys only have a short 1mm travel when you’re typing, which can make it easy to get a lot of work done. Though it’s not completely silent, it’s much quieter than a wireless mechanical keyboard.

However, remember that they’re not as essential to have and they can be quite expensive! If you can afford them, then they can be a good investment – but they’re not a necessity, and there are some good cheap keyboards out there too.

Pros

Amazing battery life leads to very little charging needed.
Compatible with most different Apple products.
Definitely one of the best looking keyboards.

Cons

Price will be too much for some folks.
Flat style won’t suit those that prefer a high profile.

Verdict: For Mac users, it’s difficult to look past the Magic keyboard as being one of the top options. Check the full Apple Magic keyboard review.

Logitech MK850

Logitech MK850 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo, 2.4GHz Wireless and Bluetooth, Curved Keyframe & Wireless Mouse, 12 Programmable Keys, 3-Year Battery Life, PC/Mac, QWERTY UK Layout

For those looking for something of a higher quality, then it’s a good idea to stick with a named brand. And when it comes to keyboards, there’s none bigger out there than Logitech. Their MK850 keyboard is a good choice if you need something for long hours at your desk.

You’ll get a 3 year long battery life out of two AAA batteries with the MK850 too, so you don’t need to worry about charging it. It’s compatible with all different operating systems; Mac, Windows & Chrome.

One reason that I like this keyboard is that it’s very easy to switch the device that you’re using it with. So, if you have a tablet and a laptop you might want to use this device with, it’s very easy to interchange between them.

This keyboard actually comes with a mouse, which makes it even better value for money. The mouse is impressive as well, as it has a fast scrolling wheel and an ergonomic rubber design suited to long hours at the desk.

So overall, the MK850 is one of the best options if you’re looking for a higher quality keyboard. With 12 different programmable keys to use, it isn’t specifically a gaming keyboard, but they can make day to day work a lot easier.

Pros

Keyboard allows for a lot of tilt for maximum comfort.
Compact design has a premium look and feel.
Quite quiet when you’re using the keyboard.

Cons

Not good for programming or gaming.
Can’t disable the inbuilt sleep mode.

Verdict: Good if you’re looking for a keyboard and mouse combo deal that doesn’t cost too much, but still provides quality.

Logitech G613

Logitech G613 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, LIGHTSPEED Advanced 1ms 2.4GHz and Bluetooth Wireless, Romer-G Tactile Key Switches, Multi-Device, 6 Programmable G-Keys, QWERTY UK Layout - Black

Whether you’re looking for a wireless keyboard for computer work, for use with your appliances like a Smart TV or for gaming, there’s no denying a mechanical keyboard can be a good choice.

Whilst mechanical keyboards are typically for gaming, they perform well as office keyboards too. Mechanical keyboards are generally a better choice for a few reasons.

In the long term, they’re going to have a longer lifespan. Probably the most significant benefit of a mechanical keyboard is an improved typing experience, as you’ll find the keys to be more responsive.

This particular model has particularly quiet keys, and they’re made for gaming performance – this means you can type quite quickly due to its minimal actuation distance.

The only downside of opting for a keyboard like this is the price. So if you can afford it, it may be opting for this Logitech G613. However, there are more budget friendly options out there too.

Pros

The wireless mechanical style is difficult to beat.
Has a wrist rest to make things more comfortable.
Can easily adjust the height of this keyboard to your preference.

Cons

Not back light to help save battery.
Very large design means it’s one of the heaviest keyboards out.

Verdict: This is a great wireless gaming keyboard that is definitely of interest for those after a high end model.

Omoton Wireless Keyboard

OMOTON Wireless Keyboard, 2.4G Wireless Keyboard for Windows 10,8,7, QWERTY UK Layout with USB Receiver,Ultra Slim Full-sized Keyboard with Numeric keypad for Computer, Desktop, PC, Laptop, Silve

This Omoton keyboard is essentially a cheap Windows alternative to the Apple Magic Keyboard that you can buy with a Mac. So if you’ve always liked the design of Apple keyboards but don’t want to switch over from Windows, then this could provide a good cheap alternative.

Like the Magic Keyboard, this used scissor-switch mechanics which help to keep the keyboard nice and quiet. It’s not silent, but you won’t upset the husband/wife when you’re bashing away at the keys.

It’s very easy to set up too, as it comes with a USB receiver to do this with. When you’re not using it, it’ll automatically go to sleep to conserve battery, which should last for around a month of full use.

This keyboard has a 6 month life off a new set of AA batteries, which is at the lower end in comparison to other models. However, it’s much cheaper than the majority of wireless keyboards out there too, so it’s no hardship to change the batteries twice a year.

All in all, it’s a good budget option in the same bracket as an Apple keyboard in terms of appearance and profile.

Pros

Well priced and very affordable.
Small design is easy to pack into your laptop bag.
Very quiet when it comes to sound.

Cons

The number keys are in awkward positions.
Need to use AAA batteries for power.

Verdict: Though simple, it is hard to argue against it being one of the best budget keyboards available.

Vivefox Keyboard

Wireless Keyboard, Vivefox 2.4G Rechargeable USB Wireless Keyboard Ultra Slim Keyboard Wireless with Numeric Keypad for Computer, PC, Laptop, Surface - QWERTY UK Layout, Silver & White

If you don’t like the idea of having to use batteries in your keyboard, then not all models are like that. You can find good rechargeable wireless keyboards out there too, and this Vivefox keyboard is the perfect example of that.

Instead of having to use AA or AAA batteries, you can just recharge this keyboard within a few hours. Many people prefer to have a rechargeable battery over the hassle of using disposable ones.

As well as this, this wireless keyboard also has a numeric keypad on it too. If you’re used to using a numeric keypad, then I’d advise you stick with a keyboard that has one too – it can be annoying having to adapt back to using standard numbers.

It uses quiet scissor switch keys and has a slim design, perfect if you don’t have a large desk to put the keyboard on. It works to a range of around 10 metres, and like the other keyboards listed, it works on a 2.4Ghz signal.

Whilst this laptop doesn’t offer anything spectacular, it’s still a good option for those looking for a keyboard with a numeric keypad. It definitely isn’t going to interest those looking for a premium keyboard, but it’s still pretty hard to beat.

Pros

Scissor-switch design is usually more expensive.
Designed so it won’t slip across your desk.
A two hour charge will give you several months of use.

Cons

Some keys aren’t in a typical UK keyboard position.
Very flat with no option to stand or tilt.

Verdict: Another alternative for those trying to avoid paying a high price for a keyboard.

Common Questions about Wireless Keyboards

Are wireless keyboards as good as wired keyboards?

If we’re talking responsiveness, then technically no, they’re not as responsive as wired keyboards. However, this is really splitting hairs between them, as you’re not going to notice the difference between typing with a good wireless keyboard and a wired keyboard. So yes, there is a difference – but it’s not noticeable.

How long does a wireless keyboard battery last?

It depends! If you have a rechargeable keyboard, then it doesn’t matter so much because you can just plug it in to recharge it. However, rechargeable keyboards do tend to last a shorter time than battery powered keyboards, which can last anywhere from 6 months to several years off of one set of batteries.

Does a wireless keyboard need WiFi?

No, you don’t need to worry about having a wifi connection to use a wireless keyboard. You can connect to a wireless keyboard via Bluetooth, or in some cases, using a USB dongle.

Should I turn off my wireless keyboard when not in use?

Technically yes, as it will extend the battery life of your keyboard. However, you don’t need to, as many of them go into “standby mode” anyway, where they use significantly less battery than when switched on and in use.

Are wireless keyboards reliable?

Yes, wireless keyboards nowadays are very reliable! If you tried a wireless keyboard a decade ago and thought it wasn’t good, then I’d urge you to give it another try – they’re a lot better nowadays.

Conclusion

Wireless keyboards can be a necessary accessory if you’re using a computer, or you want a way to improve your posture if you’re using a laptop most of the time.

By using your keyboard, you can then put your laptop on a stand, raising it to eye level, which is much better for your posture and prevents hunchback. There are many good wireless keyboards here to choose from, hopefully you’ve found one!
