Dell G3 vs G5

While initially very similar, the Dell G3 seems to be of inferior quality to the G5. It indeed uses lower-power processors with slower graphics.

Dell G3 vs G7

There are many stark differences between the two. The G7, for instance, also comes with a Core i9 variant, and the laptop has a wider screen.

Dell G5 vs G7

When compared, the G7 appears to be the most modern. It uses Intel Core i9 processors and has an RTX graphics card option.

Dell G3 Overview

Design

As a gaming laptop, the Dell G3 brings a lot to the table. However, considering it’s intended for high-speed gaming, it’s quite a surprise just how light and slim it is. When closed, the laptop has a height of 21.6 mm. Now, it does get thicker depending on your choice of graphics card. But overall, the design is skinny and fits into more modern tones.

Besides, speaking of tones, the G3 is available in two colors Eclipse Black and Alpine White. The color pallet isn’t diverse, but you do get blue gaming accents.

Performance

Style and design do speak a lot, but performance is all that matters on a gaming laptop. And that’s why the Dell G3 features better gaming via its specially optimized software. In addition, the laptop features a powerful 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor. As a result, it can handle thousands of tasks simultaneously while keeping the system cool to the touch.

Processors

Currently, the Dell G3 laptops are available in the following processors:

  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i7
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i5
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i7

The latest iteration (the G3 3590’s 2020 model) has a processing speed of up to 4.5 GHz with an 8 MB cache. So, performance-wise, you can pretty much see how this laptop breaks barriers.

Ports

The Dell G3 has the following ports:

  • SD card slot
  • Headphone jack
  • Wedge Lock Slot
  • HDMI 2.0
  • Superspeed USB 2.0 ports
  • RJ45 Ethernet (on some models)
  • miniDP (on some models)
  • RJ-45 Killer Networks E2500V2 Gb Ethernet Port (on some models)
  • USB-C DisplayPort Alt-Mode (on some models)
  • Thunderbolt 3 Port (on some models)

As you can see, the port options are diverse. But many of the ports are only available on certain graphics cards. A few more USB ports would have been more useful, though.

Display & Audio

The G3 models have a 15.6″ display, except the G3 3779, which has a 17.3″ display. Personally, the size is suitable for what you’d expect on a gaming laptop. In addition, the graphics are solid and robust.

Furthermore, the G3 uses dual speakers integrated with 3D audio from Nahimic. In other words, the sound never feels flat and surrounds you from all directions. It’s a neat little touch and lets you immerse into the game more.

Battery

G3 laptops use the 56 Whr 4-cell battery. It provides an ample amount of battery life to keep you gaming for hours on end. And the system supports quick charging.

Unfortunately, the G3 3590 model uses a lower-power 51 Whr 3-cell battery. But you do get the option of a 68 Whr battery. This seems to be a better scheme since you get to choose how many hours you want on your battery. And it provides a higher-power option for power-hungry setups.

Dell G3 15 3500

The Dell G3 15 3500 is one of the best models for this laptop series. It’s the 2020 iteration of the G3 series. This laptop features a powerful 2.5 GHz Core i5 processor that can be upgraded to 4.5 GHz. In addition, it features up to 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB onboard memory.

Since it uses the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and 1660 Ti, it’s one of the best for its crisp quality and powerful rendering.

Dell G3 15 3590

Dell G3 15 3590
Dell G3 15 3590

The Dell G3 15 3590 is the 2019 model from the G3 line. You get to choose between a conservant 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor or a powerful 2.5 GHz i7 processor. As for the memory, you get to choose between 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of internal storage.

Moreover, gaming laptops don’t use much internal memory, so more options mean more optimization. Plus, you can upgrade the 8GB DDR4 RAM to 16GB if your games are more demanding.

Dell G3 15 3779

Dell G3 15 3779
Dell G3 15 3779

If you want to cut down on costs by buying an older laptop, consider the 3779. It uses the 8th generation of Intel’s Core i5 and i7 processors. So, it’s not too outdated, and you can upgrade the processing speed up to 4.1 GHz.

This is the only G3 model that has a 15.6″ screen. So, you get a more prominent display with crispier graphics and an immersive audio experience.

Dell G3 15 3579

Dell G3 15 3579
Dell G3 15 3579

The Dell G3 15 3579 is the oldest version of the G3 laptop. It works on the same Core i5 and i7 processors as the 3779. However, there is a stark difference in the graphics and performance.

This laptop has a whopping 1TB of internal storage. But sadly, it uses Intel’s HD Graphics 620 card, which isn’t on par with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX. Additionally, the hard drive is an HDD, which isn’t as fast as an SSD.

Dell G5 Overview

Design

The Dell G5 laptop series adopts a design that’s not unfamiliar to gamers. It’s ultra-slim, as slim as any functional gaming laptop could be. When closed, the laptop measures just 24.5 mm in height.

And the laptop is only available in one color, Interstellar Dark, but we’re pretty sure no one is complaining. The one thing that sets the laptop design aside is the radiance of the accents.

Performance

The G5 laptop uses Alienware Command Center to fine-tune all of its controls and make them easier to use. In addition, it has astounding graphics, backed by the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. In addition to that, the new Intel Wi-Fi 6 ensures that you get lightning-fast connection speed.

As for the processors, it’s mainly an Intel Core i7 processor with excellent gaming capabilities. Also, the laptop features a dual-fan cooling system that helps dissipate heat faster. Thus, the result is a gaming experience that’s not too harsh on your laptop.

Processors

The Dell G5 laptop is available in the following processors

  1. 8th Gen Intel Core i5
  2. 8th Gen Intel Core i7
  3. 9th Gen Intel Core i5
  4. 9th Gen Intel Core i7
  5. AMD Ryzen 7 and 5

Dell’s G5 line has a bit of a more diverse processor set as compared to the G3. Not only do you get to choose between multiple Intel processors, but you can also opt for the AMD Ryzen. It’s a good option for gaming because Ryzen processors are better at multitasking than Intel, which is faster for single-core tasks.

Ports

This laptop has quite a few ports, including:

  • SD card slot
  • Headphone jack
  • Superspeed USB 2.0
  • Swedge lock slot
  • HDMI 2.0
  • SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1
  • RJ-45 Ethernet (on some models)
  • Mini DP (on some models)
  • USB C with DisplayPort Alt-Mode (on some models)
  • Thunderbolt 3 Port (on some models)

The choice of ports is pretty satisfactory, but many ports are not available on some models. However, you get more USB 2.0 ports than the G3, so that’s a definite plus.

Display & Audio

With dual Nahimic 3D Audio speakers and SmartByte technology, the audiovisual quality on this laptop has never been better. The 3D Audio provides a fully immersive sound experience. And the SmartByte technology facilitates seamless streaming across all platforms.

Battery

The G5 offers a 68 Whr battery on its most recent model. Previous models used 60 Whr and 56 Whr batteries. This new battery is capable of quick charging. So, you can take your laptop in a rush. And the battery lasts for quite a while, enough for some on-the-go gaming.

The Dell G5 15 5500 is the latest 2020 iteration of the G5. This laptop features two processor choices, 2.5 GHz Core i5 and 2.6 GHz Core i7. However, both these are ideal for gaming, though some may prefer the AMD Ryzen.

Additionally, you get 8GB RAM, which can be upgraded to 16GB. And to facilitate smooth graphics and impeccable 3D rendering, it uses the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics card.

Dell G5 SE (AMD)

Dell G5 SE (AMD)
Dell G5 SE (AMD)

If you’re a fan of AMD’s game-oriented processors, then you’ll love the Dell G5 SE. This laptop uses the AMD Ryzen 7 processor, a Hexa-core processor running at 2.9 GHz. As a result, it’s a much better choice than the Intel variant.

Of course, as an AMD laptop, you’ll also find the AMD Radeon RX 5600M graphics card. Aside from that, the other features are pretty much the same.

Dell G5 5590 SE

For those looking for a slightly older model, try the 5590 SE. This model uses the 9th generation Core i5 and i7 processors. Moreover, the laptop features 8 GB DDR4 RAM, which can be upgraded to 16 GB.

All in all, it’s a good choice. And the best part is that you get 3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card choices 1650, 1660 Ti, and 2060.

Dell G5 5590

Dell G5 5590
Dell G5 5590

For a slightly lesser power version of the 5590 SE, look for the 5590. Again, it’s built upon the same processors as the 5590 SE. But the main difference is that it’s available in 5 different NVIDIA graphics cards. More specifically, it’s available in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 1650, 1660, 2060, and 2070.

Apart from that, there’s the large 15.6″ LED display that emphasizes every minute detail of your game. And the 60 Whr battery keeps you gaming for longer.

Dell G7 Overview

Design

The G7 offers a unique gaming laptop design, tangential to what its predecessors offered. This laptop has been designed for portability and is more of a laptop than a gaming PC. It’s lighter than the others and only measures 25 mm in height when fully closed.

Besides, portability is not the only area the developers worked on. For example, the braces around the laptop are made from a solid and rigid magnesium alloy. This allows the laptop to withstand significant impact and years of use.

Performance

With up to an 8th gen Core i7 processor and a Hex-Core H-Series option, the G7 outperforms all previous iterations. In addition, it provides crystal clear graphics and smooth rendering powered by a massive 68 Whr battery

And since such a powerhouse of a laptop tends to heat up pretty fast, the G7 features a dual heating system that keeps it cool. In other words, the performance of your device is never hindered by what you’re doing or how long you’re doing it.

Processors

With the Dell G7 gaming laptop, you can choose from the following processors

  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i7
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i9
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i5
  • 8th Gen Intel Core i5
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i7
  • 9th Gen Intel Core i9

This is the first in the G-series of laptops that offers an i9 variant. And expectedly so, considering it’s the newest product line. The i9 processor is a lot more powerful and will better work with heavier games.

Ports

The Dell G7 gaming laptop offers the following ports:

  • Headphone jack
  • Superspeed USB 3.1
  • Type C Thunderbolt 3
  • Noble Lock Security Slot
  • RJ-45 Gb Ethernet
  • 2-in-1 MicroMedia and SD Card Slot
  • HDMI 2.0

One off-putting thing is the lack of USB connections. There are only 2 USB ports, and that too is only USB 3.1. However, the fact that all of these ports are included in the same laptop is quite promising. You don’t have to pay extra for different ports.

Display & Audio

Equipped with a 6GB NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, the G7 is no stranger to good-quality visuals. It features crisp and crystal-clear images with an unprecedented 4K UHD streaming capability.

To deliver powerful punches of sound, the G7 uses SmartByte with Waves MaxxAudio Pro. So it’s like you’re right in the game with all your favorite characters. Truly, the display and audio are quite astounding and keep you immersed in your gaming session.

Battery

Dell’s G7 laptop series is available in many battery options, from 56 Whr to 68 Whr. The 68 Whr version is their latest, featured on the G7 7500 and 7700. It provides massive amounts of power to keep your games going for longer. And it’s capable of quick charging, which is astonishing given a battery of its size. But it’s not all that surprising, considering this laptop was made for portability.

Dell G7 15 7500

Dell G7 15 7500 Gaming Laptop
Dell G7 15 7500

Perhaps one of the best G7 models, the 7500, is the latest 2020 version of this laptop. It’s available in 9th Gen Core i7 and i9 processors. And the RAM featured on the device is DDR4 16GB, upgradable to 32GB.

This means you can play a variety of games without worrying about memory. In addition, this version has a screen size of 15.6″, an ideal choice for most gaming laptops.

Dell G7 15 7700

Dell G7 15 7700
Dell G7 15 7700

If you’re a fan of bigger screens with lots of clarity, then try the G7 15 7700. This is the same laptop as the 7500, except it has a wider screen of 17.3″. So, you get to see every detail, even in the sunlight, with the Anti-Glare coating

Aside from that, you get to choose from 3 different NVIDIA graphics cards. It’s interesting because two of these cards are of the RTX variant, which is superior to its GTX counterpart.

Dell G7 15 7790

Dell G7 15 7790
Dell G7 15 7790

The G7 7790 is a relatively recent model that’s available up to Core i9. It features a wide 17.3″ screen that displays every small detail about the game. And it comes with 8 GB DDR4 RAM, upgradable to 16 GB. With this, you get a few more graphics card options, four to be exact.

Dell G7 15 7590

Dell G7 15 7590
Dell G7 15 7590

Need a slightly less powerful laptop? Then try the Dell G7 7590. This laptop features similar processors to the 7790, all the way up to Core i9. But the difference lies in the true processing power of the chips because it has an 8th generation processor while the 7790 model has a 9th generation processor.

Additionally, you get a smaller screen of just 15.6″ in size, which is still pretty useful. But aside from that, there aren’t many differences between the 7590 and the 7790.

Conclusion

And that’s it for our Dell G3 vs G5 vs G7 Dell G series review. It indeed was a blast comparing them. But here’s our final verdict

  1. If you run low-graphics games and want to save a few bucks, go with the G3.
  2. Check out the G5 if you want a cost-friendly and performative gaming solution.
  3. As a professional player, if you run highly demanding games, you may want the G7.
