Universal remotes are hot right now — given the large number of electronics that we use for entertainment, it was a matter of time before someone came up with a clever way to manage multiple remote controls. In comes the universal remote, and we can tell it’s here to stay! One of the bigger names in the market at the moment is the Onn brand of universal remotes, and it supports an impressive range of devices. You can consider getting a universal remote if you misplace your old remote or can’t find a replacement remote from the same brand.
Onn Universal Remote Codes
With a basic Onn Universal Remote, you can control up to four devices you own, such as your TV, DVD player, VCR, satellite connection, audio systems, and even your cable. Onn also makes a 6-in-1 remote that you can use with up to six different devices. There are other brands that you can look at, like GE and RCA — in fact, we just wrote a piece about RCA universal remote codes that you can check out if you own an RCA remote!
We’ve compiled various sets of codes below, so depending on your Onn Universal Remote and the device you are trying to pair with, you can choose from the options below.

How to Program Onn Universal Remote
Since various electronics manufacturers are popular among buyers today, Onn needs a code to work with each of them. And the company has definitely done its homework, which explains the remotes’ popularity with users. You can find a code for your device from the table above.
As for configuration, the Onn Universal Remote can be programmed using a couple of methods — the automatic method, which is very simple and convenient, and the manual method, which is also quite easy! Let’s go ahead and look at both processes.
Without a Code
Here are the steps to set up the Onn Universal Remote using the automatic method:
- Turn on the device you want to program the remote with.
- Press and hold the Program Button on your remote until the Power button lights up red and stays on.
- From the Device Categories section on your remote, choose the right category as per the device you’re trying to pair — you have TV, SAT/CBL, AUDIO, B-RAY/DVD, STREAM, and OTHER.
- Point your Onn remote at the device you wish to control and keep the OK Button pressed until the device powers off. And let go of the OK Button as soon as the device powers off.
- Note that the Power button’s red light will blink as the remote tries out various codes in sequence, which can take up to ten minutes.
- If the automatic method does not succeed to pair with your device, the Power button will blink twice and then turn off. This means that you must now try the Direct Code or manual method.
Via the manual or Direct Code method
If the automatic code search did not work for you, you can use the Direct Code method. Note that we have a detailed table higher up this article that you can refer to, to find codes for your electronic devices. Here are the steps to using the Direct Code method:
- Power on the device that you wish to configure with your Onn Universal Remote.
- Press the Program button and keep it pressed until the Power button lights up bright red.
- Now select the device category — you can choose to set up your TV, satellite or cable, audio systems, Blu-Ray/DVD player, streaming devices and more using the buttons named TV, SAT/CBL, AUDIO, B-RAY/DVD, STREAM, and OTHER.
- This is where you enter the 4-digit code for the device you’re trying to set up.
- If the code is correct, the red light of the Power button switches off.
- If the code is invalid, the red Power button light flashes and remains on even after entering the code. At this point, try another code. You can find a list of codes on the official Onn Remotes website. The site also has an FAQ section.
- If the Universal Remote sets up successfully, make sure you test out the various functions on the remote.
Here is a video that uses the direct code entry method to configure various devices:
We also wrote an article about finding four-digit codes for your TV that you can try with generic universal remotes — in case you don’t have luck with any of the codes here, give this article a read!
