What is the Sceptre C505B-QSN168

Sceptre monitors are known for the excellent value they offer. Despite being inexpensive they are not low grade. The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 is no different. It is an impressive 49-inch monitor.

Sceptre C505B-QSN168 – Image Quality

The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 is a 49-inch Super ultrawide Dual QHD (5120 x 1440) monitor. It sports a VA panel monitor. It covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut and supports 10-bit color depth via dithering.

The image quality of this monitor is decent. The colors look bright and stand out from one another. VA panel monitors offer you higher contrast levels when compared with IPS or TN panel monitors. This monitor has a high contrast ratio of 3000:1.

This results in vibrant colors. The blacks will appear much more distinctive. You will have an immersive experience while gaming and watching movies. Except for professional graphic design, you can use this monitor for pretty much anything.

It has a brightness level of 350-nits. You will not have any issues using it even in a well-lit environment.

It has 178-degree wide viewing angles. You will not notice any major change in colors, brightness, and contrast levels when you look at it from extreme angles.

The panel uniformity of this monitor is fair. I did notice some inequalities towards its edges. This is expected due to its large size. This won’t pose a major problem to most people.

It has an optimal pixel density of 109PPI. This makes images look detailed without any pixelation. The text also appears sharp without any blurriness. It is also easy on the eyes and you will not have to squint them to see stuff clearly.

The 5120 x 1440 resolution offers you a lot of screen real-estate to work on multiple applications at once. It is similar to having two 27-inch 1440p monitors side by side without any distracting bezel gap. You can browse documents, watch YouTube, write code and still have space left to do more.

Do keep in mind that older graphics cards that use HDMI 1.4 port do no support this 5120 x 1440 resolution. Make sure your GPU has a DisplayPort 1.4. Also, keep all your graphics drivers up to date.

The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 is HDR 400 Ready which is an entry-level certification. I wouldn’t pin my hopes on this monitor for consuming HDR-related content. Its HDR performance is not satisfactory. A higher peak brightness and a wider color gamut could have made it much better.

The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. I observed a slight backlight bleeding towards its edges. It is present in pretty much every VA panel monitor and is only visible when in dark scenes of a movie or a game.
Its screen has a matte anti-glare coating on it that helps diffuse reflections forming on it.

All things considered, The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 offers you impressive picture quality. Except for its underwhelming HDR performance, I did not have any major complaints about it. image 3 min 3

Sceptre C505B-QSN168 – Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity

The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 is a curved monitor. It has a curvature of 1800R. This makes gaming and watching movies a lot more immersive. It also increases the field of view making it easy for you to view content present on the edges. Its thin bezels maximize the viewing area while offering you a frameless viewing experience.

Its design is fairly simple and straightforward. In terms of aesthetics, this monitor offers you no visual enhancements like LED strips, RGB lights, etc. Its build quality is decent. Its cabinet is made of durable plastic.

It uses a metallic stand that stands firm. It offers you decent ergonomics for a 49-inch monitor. You can adjust its height, swivel it and tilt it. There is also a 75x75mm VESA pattern present on its back using which you can wall-mount it.

There are five OSD buttons present on the lower bezel. They are easy to reach and operate. A joystick would have been a much better option here.

In terms of connectivity ports, you get 2 x HDMI 2.0 and 2 x DisplayPort 1.4. I would suggest using DisplayPort 1.4 for optimal results.

It comes with 2x2W built-in speakers and also has a 3.5mm headphone jack. The sound output of this monitor is bad. I would suggest using external speakers for a much better audio experience. image 5 min 1

Sceptre C505B-QSN168 – Gaming Performance

The Sceptre C505B-QSN168 is an amazing gaming monitor.

It has a refresh rate of 120Hz. Gaming on it will be buttery smooth. You will notice a striking difference in smoothness when compared to a 60Hz monitor. I would recommend using DisplayPort 1.4 for optimal results.

It supports FreeSync technology that helps prevent stuttering, screen tearing, and lagging in video games. You can also use it with Nvidia cards without any issues.

It has a 4ms response time. Its input lag is around 10ms and is totally imperceptible. I wouldn’t suggest using this monitor for hardcore competitive gaming. Like most VA panel monitors, I noticed a bit of ghosting which is mostly visible in dark areas of fast-paced games.

This monitor is a great choice for sim racing, flight simulators, and single-player games. Its large curved screen will offer you an immersive gaming experience. image 1 min 3

Sceptre C505B-QSN168 – Additional Features

The Picture-by-Picture (PBP) feature helps you view inputs from two different sources at the same time. The 5120 x 1440 resolution will be divided equally between two inputs. This feature helps you multitask efficiently.

It is also a flicker-free monitor. You will not experience any headaches while using it. It also has a blue light filter that helps prevent any eye strain when used for a prolonged period of time.

It also has your regular bells and whistles such as different color modes, RTS/FPS game modes, etc. Using the overdrive option, you can also control the response time on it.
