When you’re trying to purchase a good 14 inch laptop, it’s really important that you have exactly what you want from a laptop in your mind. There are several different laptops with a 14 inch screen available, but you need to think about the other things that you might want from a laptop too.

Ensuring that your laptop has enough memory, storage and processing power are three of the things you should think about before purchasing. If you aren’t sure on this, then sticking with a minimum of 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is a good idea. Anywho, lets take a look at the best 14 inch laptops available today.

I’ll admit that I’ve fallen in love with the Matebook line from Huawei, and for those looking for the best 14 inch laptop, there are a few reasons why I’d recommend this model.

One of the main reasons is undoubtedly value for money. If you aren’t attached to Apple and using the Mac OS, then you have free rein to look at other brands. And the Huawei offers awesome value for what you’re getting.

For example, this is the fully upgraded version. A powerful 16GB of RAM, combined with a fast i7 processor and a massive 1TB of SSD storage will be enough to keep anyone happy. If you wanted these same specifications with an Apple product, it would cost between 30-50% more – just because it’s Apple. I don’t hate Apple, I think their laptops are great, but they are expensive. For those looking for more power for your money, then going with a brand like Huawei is a good choice.

The sound is better than any other laptop that I’ve used, and the increased display size makes it very aesthetically pleasing too. It has a large trackpad and fingerprint locking system, with both being very responsive. The touchscreen display is impressive. But the keyboard is probably the best part of this laptop’s design, proving to be much better than the other competitors out there, with instant pushback.

So, for those looking for the most power and one of the fastest premium laptops available, I’d recommend that you check out the Matebook Pro X.

HP Pavilion X360

The x360 is one of my favourite laptops out right now. The Spectre x360 is another fantastic laptop, but here I’m going to recommend the Pavilion x360 for people who are looking for a good deal. If you want a more premium version of this model, then that’s pretty much what the Spectre is, but it’s also more expensive.

Whilst the specs of this laptop aren’t anything special, they’re definitely solid enough to give most people what they need. With the 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, the base model comes with an i3 processor, and a Intel 620 GPU. But more important than the specs with this model is the design of the laptop itself.

For those looking for a 2-in-1 laptop, this is one of the very best out there in terms of picture quality and appearance of the laptop itself. You can easily use the 360 hinge to flip the laptop into a tablet, or you can place it in ‘tent mode’ if you want to watch a video or give a presentation to a small group of people.

On average, you’re probably going to get around 10 hours of battery life out of this model. This is quite respectable for a cheap laptop, and more than others within the same price bracket. It has good quality audio also, and it manages to give you the power of a normal laptop in the fashion of well, a laptop or a tablet. If you’re worried about it not being powerful enough as a normal laptop, then don’t worry – it is.

So whilst the laptop definitely isn’t the most powerful out there, it provides a great option for those looking for a cheap 2-in-1 laptop.

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon

The Lenovo Thinkpad is quite simply the best business laptop currently available on the market. So if you’re looking for a laptop for working purposes, then you aren’t going to find anything better than this.

The base model of the premium Carbon comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD. However in my opinion it’s probably worth the upgrade to 16GB and if you need more storage space, you can upgrade to 512GB or 1TB. It comes with an i7 processor, and it runs on the Windows OS.

Whilst the appearance of the X1 Carbon isn’t really the focal point of this laptop, many people love it’s simplistic design. It isn’t meant to be a pretty laptop – it’s meant to be the most practical, and it definitely does a good job at that. And although it is a fairly powerful laptop, it comes in a tidy package. It’s less than 1.5cm thick, and it weighs little more than a kilogram (1.08KG to be exact). You’ll struggle to find a laptop as functional as this one that weighs less, that’s for sure.

The display and the speakers are all Dolby (Vision and Atmos), so you can be sure that you’re going to get both a great audio and visual experience. If you’ve used a Thinkpad before, then you’ll know how resilient they are. They’re designed to be able to withstand military usage, so you definitely don’t need to worry about the durability of this model.

The Thinkpad X1 Carbon is pretty much the complete package for anyone looking for a top 14 inch laptop, and it’s hard to recommend anything else.

14 Inch Laptop Buyer’s Guide

What is the standard laptop size?

The majority of laptops range between 13 inches and 16 inches, with the most sold being around 13.6-14 inches. This is what suits most people and it provides a good compromise between portability and screen size.

Is a 14 inch laptop too small for me?

Depending on what you’re going to use your laptop for, a 14 inch laptop might prove to be too small. If most of the time you’re going to be using your laptop from home, then it might pay to opt for something bigger – however this will be significantly more expensive.

Why are 14 inch laptops so expensive?

Generally, 14 inch laptops shouldn’t be too much more expensive than 13 inch laptops or 15 inch laptops. However, they can cost more because many manufacturers build their equipment for 13 inch and 15 inch screens, which means it may cost more to create a 14 inch laptop screen in comparison to both larger and smaller screens that are more common.

Should I get a 2 in 1 laptop?

If you’re thinking about getting a 2-in-1 laptop like the x360 but you aren’t entirely sure whether it’s the right thing for you, then don’t worry. A good 2-in-1 laptop will give you all the same functionality as a normal laptop, so there’s no reason not to get a 2-in-1 if you think you’d find the tablet part useful.

How do I upgrade my laptop RAM?

If you’re just about to purchase a laptop, then you probably want to buy the specs that you need – there’s not much point in upgrading it later if you don’t have to. Not all laptops can be upgraded, but many (except Apple Macbooks) can pretty easily. Underneath your laptop, you can access the motherboard, where you can easily add another RAM stick.

Conclusion

Although many people are stuck in the more traditional ways of search for a 13 inch or a 15 inch laptop, nowadays a lot of manufacturers are making 14 inch displays. This is a happy medium between the two, and some of the bestselling laptops around are typically found at this 14 inch size.

With a 14 inch laptop being a great size to opt for, hopefully you’ve found this list helpful in making a decision. It isn’t always easy picking a laptop to purchase, but as long as you meet the right specifications for your own needs then you shouldn’t have any problems with the laptops that I’ve mentioned.
